Texas Patty Melts

- 1 lb. lean ground beef shopping list
- 4 (1/4-in-thick) slices red onion shopping list
- olive oil shopping list
- or veg. oil shopping list
- 8 slices purchased frozen buttered garlic Texas toast shopping list
- 4 (1-oz.) slices hot pepper Montery Jack cheese shopping list
- 1 Tbsp. ranch salad dressing shopping list
- 1 Tbsp. steak sauce shopping list
How to make it
- Heat grill.
- Shape ground beef into 4 (4-in.-square) patties.
- When ready to grill, place patties on gas grill over med. heat or on charcoal grill 4 to 6 inches from med. coals.
- Cook 13-15 minutes or until thoroughly cooked, turning once.
- Meanwhile, brush onion slices with oil.
- Add onion to grill during last 5-8 minutes of cooking time; cook onions until tender, turning once.
- Prepare bread as directed on package to grill.
- Top each patty with cheese slice; cook just until melted.
- To serve, place onion slice on each patty on grill.
- Spread 1 side of 4 slices of toast with ranch dressing; spread remaining 4 slices of toast with steak sauce.
- Top each steak sauce-spread slice of toast with onion topped patty.
- Cover each with ranch-spread slice of toast.
- Just for kids:
- For a milder, kid-friendly flavor, use Montery Jack in place of the pepper cheese.
