ORANGE CAKE

- 300 g margarine shopping list
- 800 g sugar shopping list
- 16 eggs shopping list
- 800 g cake flour shopping list
- 30 g baking powder shopping list
- 5 g salt shopping list
- 5 Medium oranges shopping list
- 250 ml rum shopping list
- 250 ml milk shopping list
- 1 gelatine leaf shopping list
- 300g sugar (for syrup) shopping list
- saffron strands shopping list
How to make it
- Boil 5 medium oranges for 2 hours, replacing the water thrice.
- Cut in half and remove the seeds
- Liquidize skin and all
- Add enough sugar and fresh orange juice until it is of a mousse consistency
- Add to the egg - flo9ur misture with rum.
- Mix well
- Add milk and mix well again
- Cream margarine and 800g sugar
- Add 16 eggs one by one working each one in throughly
- Mix the following: flour, baking powder and salt
- Pour into a greased pan and bake at 180C for 1 hour
- SYRUP:
- Blanch orangepeel cut in thin strips in water for half an hour
- Replace water and simmer for another half an hour on low heat
- Melt sugar in 1 lt water and bring to a boil
- Add some orange peel and saffron strands
- Boil on high until it starts to thicken
- Add some gelatine
- Let it cool a bit before you pour syrup over hot cake
- Add this to the egg mix
