How to make it

  • Mix shallots, leek, and celery into cream cheese using a spoon (do not use a blender!).
  • Mix until veggies are evenly distributed.
  • Add cranberries and mix until evenly distributed.
  • Add basil and thyme, being careful not to add too much spice.
  • When cream cheese mixture is smooth, use spoon to form small balls and place each ball inside of a wonton wrapper.
  • Fold wontons up into a conclave shell.
  • Number of rangoons will depend upon how big the balls are; use your judgment to create the right amount of rangoons.
  • Warm olive oil on stovetop at medium to medium-high heat.
  • Place wontons in the oil and fry until golden brown; flip several times and brown all sides.
  • Serve immediately!

    Auntybea,

They come out fried and are very similar to crab rangoons, which are a Chinese appetizer. I meant to take photos of them finished, but they literally got eaten too quickly!

I don't think I had ever heard the term rangoon before referring to little dumplings like these. But these do sound fabulous!
