Ingredients
  • 7 med potatoes peeled and cut into slices
  • 3 tbs butter + 1tbs for baking dish
  • 2 tblsp veg oil
  • 3 large yello onions thinly sliced
  • 16 flat anchovy fillets,drained
  • white pepper
  • 2 tblsp fine dry bread crumbs
  • 2 tblsp butter cut in 1/4 ins bits
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Directions
  1. Pre heat oven to 400
  2. Place potao slices in cold water to keep from discoloring
  3. Heat 3 tblsp butterand 2 tblsp veg oil in a large skillet
  4. Add onions and saute 10 min,stirring until soft but not brown
  5. Spread 1tblsp butter in a 2quart flat baking dish
  6. Arrange a layer of potatoes on bottom of dish,then a layer of onions and anchovies
  7. ending with potatoes
  8. sprinkle each layer with a little white pepper
  9. Scatter Bread crumbs over top layer,and dot top with 1/4 ins pieces of butter
  10. In a small saucepan,Heat Milk and cream Intill barely simmering
  11. pour over the potatoes
  12. Bake in center of oven for 45 minor untilpotatoes are tender when pierced with tip of sharp knife and liquide is nearly absorbed
