How to make it

  • Tomato fans rejoice! It's the time of year when boxes of Ben and Ben Becnel and Matt Ranatza Farms Creole tomatoes can be found stacked sky high in the produce department. Tender, juicy and vibrantly colored, no tomato can rival the unmistakable beefy texture and distinct flavor of a Creole. The Creole tomato, which was designated the official vegetable of Louisiana in 2003, is a variety of tomato grown only in certain parts of south Louisiana (namely Plaquemines Parish where Ben and Ben Becnel and Matt Ranatza Farms hail) where the soil is just right. Whether you opt to slice one up, layer it with fresh mozzarella and basil, then drizzle it with olive oil, or simply pluck one from the box and bite into it like a big red apple, Creole tomatoes make us proud to call Louisiana home!!!
