Japanese Beef Stir Fry Recipe

Japanese Beef Stir Fry Recipe
This dish is a different twist on the traditional stir fry. The tomatoes are a really nice addition to this slightly sweet and peppery Japanese style stir fry.

Ingredients
  • 3 tbsp. salad oil for meat and 2 tbsp. to cook vegies
  • 1 lb sirloin steak thinly sliced
  • 2 tsp. brown sugar
  • 1 - 2 fresh garlic cloves minced
  • freshly ground pepper (to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cp soya sauce
  • 2/3 cp celery, cut into thin slices on diagonal
  • 1 large onion quartered
  • 1 green pepper sliced thin strips or small chunks
  • 2 tomatoes cut into wedges
  • Cooked Rice - enough for 2-4 people

Directions
  1. Heat oil in large skillet or stir fry pan.
  2. Add thinly sliced beef, stiring until just lightly seared.
  3. Sprinkle meat with sugar, garlic, pepper, salt and 1/2 of the soya sauce.
  4. Cook for about another minute or two until meat is just about done - set aside meat in serving dish while you cook vegetables.
  5. Now place the 2 tbsp. oil in same stir fry pan and reheat at medium high.
  6. Add celery, green peppers, onion and remaining soya sauce. Grind additional pepper over the mixture.
  7. Stir fry for a few minutes until the vegies are tender crisp - do not over cook!
  8. Lastly add tomato sections and stir into vegies, add meat now and stir and cover and cook another five minutes stiring occasionally.
  9. Serve at once over hot cooked rice.
