How to make it

  • In large bowl, cream shortening and sugars
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating a couple of seconds after each addition
  • Mix remaining ingredients *except* flour in a bowl
  • Add these ingredients to sugar, shortening, egg mixture
  • Mix well with wooden spoon
  • THEN add as much of the 1-1/2 cups flour as needed to make stiff dough
  • Drop by rounded teaspoons (or cookie scoop), onto greased cookie sheet
  • Bake at 375 degrees until light brown, about 12 minutes
  • Please do not overbake
  • Remove from pan with a spatula
  • Cool on wire rack

    My Mom made this cookie a tradition when we went on vacation. They freeze well. She would make several batches, freeze them, so we had enough of them for the whole week. I plan on taking over the tradition. Delicious cookies.
