Chile Cheese Bread

- 2 packages rapid rise yeast shopping list
- 1/2 cup hot water, from the sink shopping list
- 1 cup sour cream shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter, melted shopping list
- 2 Tbsp. sugar shopping list
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. salt shopping list
- 4 cups of flour shopping list
- ----Filling---- shopping list
- 2 1/2 packages cream cheese, softened shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1 small can sliced jalapeno peppers, drained, and shopping list
- the slices cut in half shopping list
- ----Wash---- shopping list
- 1 egg, beaten shopping list
- 1 Tbsp. water shopping list
How to make it
- Pour hot water into a measuring cup, and add yeast; stir to
- dissolve.
- In a large bowl, Pour in yeast. Stir in sour cream, butter, sugar, eggs and salt. Add flour; stir until smooth.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- the next morning, with mixer, cream the cream cheese and add egg and beat until smooth and set aside.
- Punch down the dough, turn out on a floured surface and lightly knead the dough 8 times
- Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Turn out 1 portion onto a floured surface, and roll into a 12x8" rectangle.
- Spread with 1/6 of the cream cheese.
- Place a line of chile slice halves 2" in from the bottom edge on the long side of the rectangle.
- Roll up (jelly roll style) starting with the side the chiles are on and seal the seem by pinching it and roll the ends under.
- Place seam side down on a greased baking sheet. 2 loaves per baking sheet.
- Repeat with remaining dough and filling.
- using scissors, cut 3/4" deep cuts into the sides of each loaf at 3/4" intervals, alternating from one side to the other.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, one last time, about 40 minutes.
- Make an egg wash with the egg and water. Brush the top of loaves with the egg wash.
- Heat the oven to 375*, then bake the bread loaves for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Cool 10 minutes befor removing to wire racks.Serve while they are still hot. Refrigerate leftovers.
- NOTE OF CAUTION; Wear rubber or latex gloves when handling the chiles. And be careful not to rub your eyes.
