Ingredients

How to make it

  • Get out your favorite medium pot and pour in the water to boil.
  • While waiting for the water to boil, take your berries and divide them by half.
  • using a can or any other heavy blunt object, smash one half of the berries (just until they release their juices. I know it's fun, but don't overdo it.)
  • Once the pot hits boiling dump the berries (and all their delicious juices) into the pot.
  • Lower the heat to medium and let simmer until it has reduced by about half.
  • Once the first reduction is done, stir in the sugar.
  • let reduce by about 1/3 or until it has thickened pretty noticeably.
  • Pour syrup into any (clean) jar you have and let sit in the refrigerator for at least overnight before enjoying. :D

This sounds good. I found this: http://www.fooddomain.msu.edu/docs/bulletin/BLUEBERRIES_ed.pdf that says that 2 cups of blueberries is 3/4lbs.

I made this and it taste great with pancakes but a little goes a long way because it is very sweet. Mine turned out more like a jelly then a syrup. I don't know if I cooked it too long, or if I used too many berries or what. I used black raspberries and I mushed them up through a wire strainer to get the seeds out. But because it is so thick I have to use a knife to get it out instead of pouring it like syrup.
