Greek Farina Dessert Recipe
A homestyle Greek dessert called"halva" made with farina, butter and a sweet cinnamon syrup. Could also be served with a dollop of whipped cream. It is really very delcious !

Ingredients
  • 1/2 pound of butter
  • 2 cups farina
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 cup pine nuts (optinal)

Directions
  1. in a 3 quart pot add water,sugar and cinnamon sticks bring to a boil and let simmer for about half an hour
  2. While this mixture is simmering in a frying pan melt your butter and then add the pine nuts and farina stirring frequently untill the farina
  3. becomes light brown in color
  4. Once the farina is done remove cinnamon sticks from what is now syrup
  5. Slowly and carefully add all the syrup into the frying pan with the farina
  6. Now watch out because it does splatter very badly but its worth it
  7. Now that you have added the syrup to the farina lower flame so it just simmers cover pan for about five minutes
  8. Then stir your mixture it should absorb all the syrup
  9. If it has not yet ,continue cooking uncovered and stirring constantly untill all liqiud is absorbed
  10. Serve warm and sprinkle with ground cinnamon
