How to make it

  • In saucepan, cover peas with water. Bring just to a boil over high heat. Immediately drain and rinse in cold water. Drain well.
  • In a bowl, combine peas, ham, onion, green pepper and celery.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together equal amounts of mayonnaise and salad dressing. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Add enough mayonnaise mixture to salad to coat well. Cover and chill several hours.
  • Serve salad on a bed of salad greens.

    That's interesting. My Norweigian mother-in-law used the same word for a hot dishe she did with leftover corned beef,potatoes and onions and carrots. She cooled it down till it was soft and blended.
