This is an incredible rich recipe for pork spareribs. Mys ister-in-law concocted this recipe and we enjoy it about 3 times a year. Awesome and very tasty.

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds pork spareribs cut in half crosswise and apart at bone
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 cups water
  • 3 cups carrots sliced
  • 1 turnip peeled and cubed
  • 1 large white onion chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon anise seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 cups shredded cabbage

Directions
  1. Sprinkle ribs with salt and pepper then arrange in shallow baking pan.
  2. Bake at 450 for 25 minutes until well browned then pour off fat. And transfer to large saucepan.
  3. Add water, carrots, turnip, onion, chili powder, salt, garlic, cumin, anise seed and pepper.
  4. Bring to boil then reduce heat and cover then simmer 2 hours until meat is very tender.
  5. Skim fat then stir in cabbage and cook 10 minutes longer.
