Cabbage And Meat  Filled Pastries Recipe
Eastern European recipe German/Russian etc. of a filled pocket pastry. These make good appetizers, main dish when served with a gravy and freeze well

Ingredients
  • 1 recipe bread dough ( or use frozen bread dough )
  • filling:
  • 1 large head cabbage chopped
  • 3 lbs ground beef ( hamburger )
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • egg wash ( beat egg with a little water )

Directions
  1. Use any bread dough recipe or frozen bread dough; let dough raise.
  2. In the meantime, put the following in a large kettle: cabbage. hamburger,onion, salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Simmer until cabbage is tender and meat and onions cooked and tender..
  4. Drain mixture very well.
  5. Season to taste again if needed
  6. After punching down dough and kneading dough, roll out into about 8"circles.
  7. Fill dough one at a time with some kraut mixture.
  8. Pinch / seal edges together to form a half circle.
  9. Put into a lightly greased baking pan.
  10. Brush beaten egg over each, and let raise again, about 1/2 hour.
  11. Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
  12. Done when golden brown.
