Ingredients
  • 3 cups water
  • 2,5 ml Salt
  • 4 cups maize meal

Directions
  1. Bring water to boil and add salt
  2. Dunk all the meal into the water in one go and place lid on pot allowing water to come back to boil
  3. Mix meal and water by quickly drawing the stirring tool from the edge of pot through the middle of the meal.
  4. Taste the mix - that is the raw taste
  5. Turn down heat to lowest setting and allow to steam
  6. Stir as described, about every 5 min and taste the pap
  7. Continue until "raw taste" is gone and pap has a pleasant nutty flavour
  8. If you think the pap is too dry, drizzle some water down the side of the pot and stir briskly thereafter
  9. Enjoy (a) Warm with milk + sweetner for breakfast; (b) Cold with sour milk (or youghurt) for lunch (c) With homemade tomato sauce as side dish at a braai (barbeque)
