Ingredients

How to make it

  • Bring water to boil and add salt
  • Dunk all the meal into the water in one go and place lid on pot allowing water to come back to boil
  • Mix meal and water by quickly drawing the stirring tool from the edge of pot through the middle of the meal.
  • Taste the mix - that is the raw taste
  • Turn down heat to lowest setting and allow to steam
  • Stir as described, about every 5 min and taste the pap
  • Continue until "raw taste" is gone and pap has a pleasant nutty flavour
  • If you think the pap is too dry, drizzle some water down the side of the pot and stir briskly thereafter
  • Enjoy (a) Warm with milk + sweetner for breakfast; (b) Cold with sour milk (or youghurt) for lunch (c) With homemade tomato sauce as side dish at a braai (barbeque)
