  • 3/4 cup softened butter or shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 3/4 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup salted, dry-roasted chopped peanuts
  • 1/2 cup dry-roasted, slivered almonds

Directions
  1. Combine butter, sugar, egg and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  2. Stir in remaining ingredients, folding in the raisins, peanuts and almonds last. You may have to finish combining the ingredients with your hands.
  3. Shape into small balls and place on lightly greased baking sheets.
  4. Cover and chill 2 hours or overnight.
  5. Preheat oven to 375F.
  6. Bake trays 10 minutes, rotating halfway through.
  7. Cool 5 minutes on sheets before removing to wire racks.
