How to make it

  • Wash, remove the stems from and quarter or half the strawberries.
  • Sprinkle with the sugar and Grand Marnier (optional), cover and set aside for about an hour or so.
  • Heat oven to 400f.
  • Mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and sugar.
  • With your hands (or a pastry cutter if you don't like to use your hands) cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse pea sized bits.
  • Add the buttermilk and mix until just blended.
  • I like to just free form these biscuits by dropping 8 to 10 mounds onto a parchment lined sheet pan. You may roll the dough out on a floured board and cut out the biscuits if you desire.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the biscuits have risen and are a lovely golden brown.
  • Cool the biscuits on a rack.
  • In a chilled bowl, whip the cream to medium/firm peaks.
  • Assemble by cutting the biscuits in half, topping with strawberries, lots of juice, whipped cream and then the top half of the biscuit.
  • Enjoy!

    Made this for my dad's birthday, it's his favorite. I turned the base into a pie style thing and poured the strawberry mixture over. It was a huge hit! Thanks so much for the recipe!
