The word halva , originally derived from the Arabic root which means sweet , is used to describe many distinct types of sweet confection, across the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, and the Balkans.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 C All purpose flour
  • 1 C Sugar
  • A pinch of food color ( red )
  • 1/2 to 1 C ghee
  • 5 Cardamom , crushed
  • 3/4 C Roasted cashew nuts , crushed coarsely
  • 2 C water

Directions
  1. Mix the flour and little water well .
  2. Add water bit by bit , as less as possible and knead it to make dough .
  3. Set aside for 45 mins .
  4. Now add 2 cups of water and mix well
  5. You will see the milk forming .
  6. Separate the milk and set aside.
  7. Slowly thicker version of milk will settle at the bottom .
  8. Get rid of the thin milk which floats on top .
  9. In a heavy bottom pan , add the milk, sugar and food color
  10. Stir until it starts to thicken .
  11. Add the ghee bit by bit , while stirring all the time .
  12. Continue stirring .
  13. Once the ghee separates from halva , add the cardamom powder and the nuts .
  14. Pour on a tray and cool it abit .
  15. Cut into pieces .

Wheet Halva : You can do the same with wheat . Soak the wheat grain , grind it and get the milk .
