Ingredients
  • Fresh, salad greens, enough for 2 large salads: use mesclun, romaine, fresh spinach leaves, and any other salad greens that you prefer and that will add variety to the bowl.
  • Salad toppers of your choice: sliced radishes, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. We like fresh baby corn. If you can get baby corn, fry this along with the steak., which may require a little more olive oil in the pan.
  • A few shredded fresh basil leaves. Add these to the salad greens or salad toppers.
  • Approximately 6-8 oz. of leftover steak, sliced thin ( 1/16 of an inch or less). New York Strip steaks, cut to about 2 inches in thickness, work very well.
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil - at least 6 tablespoons.
  • 3 - 4 large cloves of garlic, smashed and chopped into medium small pieces.
  • Fresh grating cheese of your choice. Fontanel and Manchego are excellent choices and add an unusual, buttery flavor to the dish.
  • Seasonings: Sea salt, pepper (Badia brand Steak Seasoning, often found in the ethnic section of your grocery store, is wonderful on this salad. It adds enough salt and a variety of peppery flavors.

Directions
  1. Put 3 tablespoons of Extra virgin olive oil small pan. Add chopped garlic, turn frequently, and cook until it just begins to turn a golden brown.
  2. Remove garlic from pan quickly. Set aside. Place pan with remaining oil back on the stove. High heat.
  3. Fry sliced steak in the garlic oil you have just created. About 30 seconds on each side.
  4. Remove steak and set aside.
  5. Combine salad greens in bowl with olive oil (at least 3 tablespoons) and seasonings. Turn salad greens until they are well coated with the oil/seasonings mixture.
  6. Add steak to bowl and mix salad again.
  7. Add balsamic vinegar to taste. Mix salad greens a final time.
  8. Add salad toppers and grating cheese of your choice. Serve.
