How to make it

  • PREPARE PASTRY:
  • Whisk flour and salt, cut in Crisco to pea size. Add water 1 T. at a time. Toss until moistened. Form a ball. Roll half to fit 9-inch pie plate. Roll remaining pastry and cut into fall shapes about ½ - 1-inch each. Combine water and egg. Brush over edge of pastry in plate and cutouts. If desired, sprinkle with sugar.
  • FILLING:
  • Combine pumpkin, brown sugar, apple butter, spices. Add eggs and yolk, beat lightly with fork just till combined. Gradually add heavy cream; stir to combine; pour into crust. Loosely cover edge with foil. Bake 375* F. 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake 20 minutes more.
  • Combine remaining ingredients; sprinkle over pie. Bake 15 to 20 minutes more or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve with whipped cream, if desired.
