How to make it

  • . Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Add baking powder and salt to sifted flour; sift again. Gradually add dry ingredients and anise seed to butter mixture, beating well after each addition.
  • 2. Shape dough into log, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 12 inches long. Wrap in wax paper. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  • 3. Preheat oven to 400°F. Cut log into thin slices and place 1 inch apart on greased baking sheets.
  • 4. Bake 8 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets 1 minute. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.

  • frost with a powdered sugar/water frosting with anise oil added for extra flavor.
