Anise Cookies

- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon McCormick® pure vanilla extract shopping list
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1 3/4 cups sifted flour shopping list
- 1 1/2 teaspoons McCormick® anise seed shopping list
- optional...1/2 cup finely chopped pecans shopping list
How to make it
- . Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Add baking powder and salt to sifted flour; sift again. Gradually add dry ingredients and anise seed to butter mixture, beating well after each addition.
- 2. Shape dough into log, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 12 inches long. Wrap in wax paper. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
- 3. Preheat oven to 400°F. Cut log into thin slices and place 1 inch apart on greased baking sheets.
- 4. Bake 8 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets 1 minute. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.

- frost with a powdered sugar/water frosting with anise oil added for extra flavor.
