Grandma Hagans Winter Soup Recipe
This is a unique family recipe that has been passed down through several generations by observation and hands-on preparation. It's only recently been put to pen.

Ingredients
  • 2 cup northern beans; dried
  • 1 1/2 cup carrot; chopped
  • 1 1/2 cup cabbage; chopped
  • 4 cup potatoes; diced
  • 1/3 cup rice
  • 2 single onion; chopped
  • 3/4 box elbow macaroni
  • 1 quart tomato juice
  • milk
  • butter
  • salt and pepper

Directions
  1. Stock: On the night before preparation, cover beans in a pot with water and place in refrigerator.
  2. On the day of preparation, cook the beans and onions for 1 to 1 1/2 hr.
  3. Add carrots and cabbage, then potatoes and juice. Add macaroni and rice last.
  4. Serving instructions: Remove as much stock as needed and place in a pot. Add milk to desired color and thickness (generally, the soup should appear light pink). Add 1 tsp butter per serving, salt and pepper to taste, heat and serve.

HEY THERE ROTTMAN THIS SOUNDS VERY COMFORTING ......I LOVE GREAT SOUPS THANKS FOR SHARING MY FRIEND.........


I love this soup. Reminds me of my grandma's house and all the odors of spices and that. Grandpa sold Watkins products door-to-door, so their basement smelled like vanilla and all spice. Nothing to do with this soup, but pleasant anyway.


Sounds like a very special recipe.
