Date Squares

- FILLING shopping list
- 1 1/2 cup (375 ml) chopped, seeded dates shopping list
- 1 (250 ml) cup water shopping list
- 1/2 (125 ml) cup white sugar shopping list
- CRUMB MIXTURE shopping list
- 1/2 tsp (2 ml) baking soda shopping list
- 1 cup (250 ml) brown sugar shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) white flour shopping list
- 1 3/4 cups (425 ml) rolled oats shopping list
- 3/4 cup (175 ml) softened butter or margarine shopping list
- 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract or pure vanilla shopping list
How to make it
- Combine the filling ingredients and simmer on low to medium heat until the dates are softened about 8 to 10 minutes. Let cool.
- Combine the crumb mixture ingredients together mixing with your hands or with an electric mixer until the butter is well combined..
- Spread half the crumb mixture in a greased 9 X 9 baking pan. Spread all the filling on top.
- Spread the other half of crumb mixture on top of filling.
- Bake in a 350 degrees oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
- Let cool and cut into squares.
