How to make it

  • Remove crust from bread. Butter bread and cut in quarters. Grease 9 x 11 inch casserole dish and line with bread, butter side up. Pour cheese over bread. Beat eggs, milk, salt, mustard and pepper, pour over cheese. Leave in refrigerator overnight. Bake at 325 degrees for one hour uncovered. (Bake last 5 minutes uncovered.)
  • Variations: Add any type of pre cooked breakfast meat.

    I've had a similar dish at my daughters though yours is a bit different. She added pre-cooked crumpled sausage and bacon to hers. I know this is very good.
    Being from the S.C.coast,I can tell you that you can also make this dish with grits on the bottom and shrimp instead of meat. Wow! Follow the directions just the same way. I love spell check. if only they made a grammar check.
