Toasty Cheese Bake Recipe

Ingredients

8 slices white bread

Butter

1/2 pound ground beef

1/4 cup chopped onion

2 tablespoons chopped celery

1 tablespoon prepared mustard

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup shredded sharp American cheese

1 egg slightly beaten

3/4 cup milk

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1/8 teaspoon dry mustard

Directions

Heat oven to 350 then put butter on both sides of bread and toast bread.

Cook and stir meat, onion, celery, mustard and 1/2 teaspoon salt until meat is brown and onion is tender.

Alternate layers of toast, meat mixture and cheese in greased baking pan.

Mix remaining ingredients then pour over layers in pan.

Sprinkle with paprika then bake uncovered for 35 minutes.

The recipe is from a Betty Crocker (I think Betty Croker) recipe card club. It came on a card - a packet or two of recipe cards were sent each month - that were kept in a large plastic recipe box, with a divider separating the interior into two sections. The recipe boxes came in green, orange, and I think yellow. There was a lip on the front of the lid for holding whatever particular recipe you were making at the time.

Anyone besides me remember these? :)
