Oatmeal Cake With Broiled Frosting

- CAKE: shopping list
- 1/2 c. butter, softened shopping list
- 1/3 c. white sugar shopping list
- 1/3 c. brown sugar shopping list
- 1 t. vanilla shopping list
- 2 eggs, beaten shopping list
- 1 c. sifted all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1 t. baking powder shopping list
- 1/2 t. baking soda shopping list
- 1/2 t. salt shopping list
- 1 t. cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 t. nutmeg shopping list
- 1/2 c. milk shopping list
- 1 c. rolled oats (quick or old-fashioned, uncooked) shopping list
- FROSTING: shopping list
- 1/4 c. butter, softened shopping list
- 1/2 c. brown sugar shopping list
- 3 T. half and half shopping list
- 1/3 c. chopped nuts (walnuts are OK but can use anything) shopping list
- 1/2 c. flaked or shredded coconut shopping list
How to make it
- Heat oven to 350
- Beat butter until creamy;
- Add sugars gradually and beat til fluffy;
- Add vanilla and eggs; mix well
- Sift together dry ingredients;
- Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk;
- Stir in rolled oats.
- Pour into a floured well-greased 9 inch square pan.
- Bake in preheated oven 30 to 35 minutes.
- FROSTING:
- Combine all ingredients;
- Spread evenly over cake;
- Broil until frosting becomes bubbly;
- Serve warm.
