Foundation Sweet Dough

- 2 pkg yeast shopping list
- 1/4 cup luke warm water shopping list
- 1/4 cup shortening shopping list
- 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 tsp salt shopping list
- 2 eggs beaten shopping list
- 1 cup milk scalded shopping list
- 1 tsp grated lemon rind shopping list
- 5 cups sifted flour shopping list
How to make it
- Soften yeast in luke warm water.
- Add shortening, sugar, and salt to scalded milk, cool to luke warm.
- Add softened yeast, eggs, lemon rind & enough flour to make a stiff batter.
- Beat well, add enough more flour to make a soft dough.
- Turn out on lightly floured board and knead until satiny.
- Place in greased bow, cover with a tea towel, and let raise until double in bulk.
- When light, punch down. Shape into tea rings, rolls or coffee cake.
- Let rise until double in bulk again.
- Bake in moderate oven 270 degrees:
- 25-30 min for coffee cake & tea rings
- 20 - 25 min for rolls
