Ingredients
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup walnut pieces
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 stick butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons turbinado sugar

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350F degrees.
  2. Cut 2 sheets of parchment paper to line bottom of large 4-sided baking pan (17x13x1).
  3. Pulse together flour, walnuts, granulated sugar, baking soda and salt in food processor until nuts are finely ground. Add butter and pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal with small butter lumps.
  4. Whisk together honey, egg and vanilla.
  5. Then add to flour mixture and pulse just until dough comes together.
  6. Transfer dough to 1 sheet of trimmed parchment (not in pan) and cover with second sheet.
  7. Roll overwith rolling pin to spread dough evenly between sheets into a rough 15x11 rectangle.
  8. Transfer dough in parchment to pan and remove top sheet.
  9. Using spatula, spread dough into corners of pan to cover parchment
  10. completely.
  11. Holding paring knife sideways, drag tip over dough at 1/2
  12. inch intervals to create lines resembling those on tree bark.
  13. Sprinkle dough evenly with turbinado sugar.
  14. Bake in upper third of oven until set, 20 to 25 minutes.
  15. Cool in pan on rack for 5 minutes.
  16. Reduce oven temperature to 300F degrees.
  17. Run knife around edge ofpan, then invert bark on to work surface.
  18. Discard parchment.
  19. Fold bark in half lengthwise so that it breaks with uneven edges.
  20. Repeat with each piece.
  21. Tear each strip crosswise into 6 pieces.
  22. Divide biscuits, sugar sides up, between 2 baking sheets.
  23. Bake untildeep golden brown, 15 to 25 minutes.
  24. Transfer to racks to cool.
