Ingredients
  • 350g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 2-3 teaspoons of ground ginger
  • 100g butter (or marg)
  • 175g light soft brown sugar (works best!)
  • 4 tablespoons (60ml) golden syrup
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Icing (ready made or whatever)

Directions
  1. Turn oven to 190 celcius or 375 fahrenheit or gas mark 5.
  2. Dust 3 or 4 baking trays with flour.
  3. Sift flour, bicarbonate of soda, and ginger into bowl.
  4. Rub the butter with your fingers into the mixture, until you end up with fine-ish breadcrumbs.
  5. Beat the edd and syrup together in a bowl, and stir into the bowl.
  6. Knead with your fingers for a while until you end up with a dough like ball (it doesnt matter if it is a little dry, as the butter will eventually melt and make it softer).
  7. Make you desired shapes (about 0.5cm or 1/4 inch thick), and place on the trays.
  8. Bake in the oven for 12-15 mins.
  9. Decorate with icing or whatever you want and eat!
