How to make it

  • Boil the beans in 9 cups of water and then let sit for one hour. Drain and set aside.
  • Cook the bacon to your desired texture 9it can be soft or crisp) and drain except for 1/4 cup drippings. Coarsly chop bacon
  • Add the onions and celery to reserved drippings and bacon. Saute until soft, donot drain. Add the chicken base or cubes, 4 cups water, bay leaf, salt, pepper, and cloves and simmer for 2 hours
  • Stir in the tomatoes with thier juice.

    This looks amazing!! and I just took my dry beans out of the plastic bags into containers, and I do have navy beans.

    as a kid, this soup (campbells) was my favorite, next to chicken gumbo. Now I hate that canned stuff--too salty for starters!!
