Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups mixed nuts chopped
  • 4 cups sugar plus 1/2 cup
  • 400 gms butter,
  • 1 package filo dough
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons rosewater

Directions
  1. Prepare Syrup First
  2. Combine 4 cups sugar, lemon juice, water in a medium saucepan.
  3. Bring to the boil; allow boiling for 10 minutes.
  4. Add rosewater
  5. Remove from heat immediately.
  6. Allow to cool.
  7. Preparing Baklava
  8. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and nuts in a bowl.
  9. Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius
  10. Butter the bottom of a baking dish
  11. Unroll dough and cut to fit baking dish
  12. Place two sheets of dough in the baking dish brush with butter and repeat until half the filo is used then spread about 1 cup of nut mixture over the last layer of filo.
  13. Place two sheets of filo on top brush with butter
  14. Repeat until nut and sugar mixture is all used on the final layer of filo brush with butter
  15. Cut into squares and then cut each square in half diagonally to make triangles.
  16. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  17. Remove from oven and pour syrup over top of baklava and allow [t to seep through saturating it well
  18. Let cool serve with cream
