Caramel Squares Recipe

Ingredients

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup butter

2eggs separated

1 1/2 cup flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 cup lightly packed brown sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1/8 tsp salt

1 cup chopped pecans

Directions

Preheat oven 350*

Base:

Cream first 1/2 cup brown sugar and butter

Beat in egg yolks

combine the flour and baking powder and add to creamed mixture mixing well.

Spread over bottom of 8" greased Square Pan

Topping:

Sprinkle chopped nuts over base set aside

Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form

Blend in sugar, Vanilla and salt

Spread topping over base and bake 30 minutes

Cover pan to soften top when cutting into squares. Dip knife in water as for lemon pie to keep topping from sticking and tearing away from the base when cutting
