How to make it

  • Heat the oil in a heavy frying pan over medium high heat
  • Peel Plantains and slice diagonally into 1-inch pieces.
  • Fry the plaintains a few pieces at a time until they brown on all sides.
  • Remove and put on a paper towel lined plate.
  • Keep oil in frying pan on over the medium high heat
  • Take a tostonera or small plate to press each slice to a thickness of about 1/3-inch.
  • Dip the flattened plantains in the salted water.
  • Immediately return part of the flattened slices to the hot oil and fry again on each side until well browned and crispy.
  • Drain on paper towels and repeat with the remaining flattened slices.
  • Voila Tostones
