How to make it

  • Put butter in an 8" round cake pan OR a cast iron skillet.
  • Prepare boxed gingerbread according to package directions.
  • Set aside.
  • Place pan in oven to melt butter while oven is preheating to 350 degrees F.
  • Remove pan from heat when butter has melted.
  • Sprinkle brown sugar evenly in pan.
  • Arrange pears atop the sugar in the pan, filling pan as much as possible.
  • Pour prepared gingerbread mix onto pears.
  • Bake for 50 to 60 minutes OR until gingerbread tests done.
  • Remove from oven.
  • Cool five minutes on a rack.
  • Invert cake onto plate.
  • Garnish with whipped cream dollops.
