German Gingerbread

- molasses tablespoon 2 1/2 shopping list
- butter, with salt cup 1/2 shopping list
- sugar, brown cup 1/2 shopping list
- egg, yolk, raw large 1 shopping list
- flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, bleached cup 2 shopping list
- baking soda teaspoon 1 shopping list
- ginger, ground tablespoon 1 shopping list
- cinnamon, ground dash 1 shopping list
How to make it
- Stand container of golden syrup in hot water to soften.
- Beat the butter and sugar to a cream, then beat in the egg yolk.
- Beat in the syrup. Slowly add flour, baking soda, ginger, and an optional dash of cinnamon.
- With floured hands, kneed into a dough. Wrap in plastic and place in fridge for 1 hour, making it easier to roll out.
- Brush flour on the rolling pin and under the dough. Roll to an even 1/3" thick and cut out shapes.
- Place on a greased tray about 3/4" apart and bake in a moderately slow oven 350 F for about 15 minutes.
- Leave for a few minutes and remove with a spatula.
