  • Molasses tablespoon 2 1/2
  • Butter, with salt cup 1/2
  • Sugar, brown cup 1/2
  • Egg, yolk, raw large 1
  • Flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, bleached cup 2
  • Baking soda teaspoon 1
  • Ginger, ground tablespoon 1
  • Cinnamon, ground dash 1

Directions
  1. Stand container of golden syrup in hot water to soften.
  2. Beat the butter and sugar to a cream, then beat in the egg yolk.
  3. Beat in the syrup. Slowly add flour, baking soda, ginger, and an optional dash of cinnamon.
  4. With floured hands, kneed into a dough. Wrap in plastic and place in fridge for 1 hour, making it easier to roll out.
  5. Brush flour on the rolling pin and under the dough. Roll to an even 1/3" thick and cut out shapes.
  6. Place on a greased tray about 3/4" apart and bake in a moderately slow oven 350 F for about 15 minutes.
  7. Leave for a few minutes and remove with a spatula.
