Cheese and Grape Turnovers

- 1/4 cup cream cheese softened shopping list
- 4 tablespoons dark brown sugar shopping list
- 1-1/2 cups seedless grapes coarsely chopped shopping list
- 2 teaspoons baking powder shopping list
- 1 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 2 cups all purpose flour shopping list
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening shopping list
- 1/3 cup cold water shopping list
- 2 tablespoons melted butter shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 400.
- Mix cream cheese and 2 tablespoons sugar until smooth then gently stir in grapes and set aside.
- Sift baking powder, salt and flour into a mixing bowl then add shortening with pastry cutter.
- Mix in shortening to form a coarse meal then add enough water to form a loose dough.
- Transfer to a floured surface and roll out dough 1/4" thick.
- Using a cutter or knife make 12 rounds.
- Place a large spoonful of filling on half of each dough round.
- Lightly wet edges with water and press to seal then arrange empanadas on a baking sheet.
- Brush with melted butter then sprinkle remaining sugar and top and bake 20 minutes.
