Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat your oven to 375F. All ingredients should be at room temperature.
  • Sift together the cake flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Cream the sugar and butter until the mixture is creamy.
  • Combine the milk and vanilla.
  • Add the sifted, dry ingredients to the creamed butter mixture in three parts, alternating with the milk and vanilla mixture. Stir until the batter is smooth.
  • Whip until stiff, 4 egg whites. Gently fold them into the batter and pour into two 9-inch baking pans sprayed with a baking prep spray.
  • Bake at 375 for 25 minutes.
  • Remove and allow to cool 5 minutes before turn the cakes out onto a cooling rack.
  • While the cakes are cooling, mix the dry ingredients for the Fondue sauce in a small pan and add a small amount of water - enough to make a thick paste. Add the milk and heat.
  • Do not boil.
  • When warm, add the butter and vanilla.
  • Cut the cake into individual servings, cover with the hot fondue sauce. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • For a better presentation, you might use square baking pans.
  • Note: The white cake recipe was originally from Joy of Cooking. I'm not sure where the Chocolate Fondue sauce recipe came from originally.
