- ----- White cake ----- makes two 9-inch round pans ---- shopping list
- 2 1/4 cups Softasilk cake flour shopping list
- 2 1/2 tsp double-acting caking powder shopping list
- 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1 1/4 cup sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 1 cup milk shopping list
- 1 tsp vanilla shopping list
- 4 egg whites shopping list
- ----- chocolate Fondue Sauce --------------------------------- shopping list
- 2 Tb flour shopping list
- 2 cup milk shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 4 Tb cocoa shopping list
- 1 Tb vanilla shopping list
- 1 Tb butter shopping list
- 1 pinch salt shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat your oven to 375F. All ingredients should be at room temperature.
- Sift together the cake flour, baking powder and salt.
- Cream the sugar and butter until the mixture is creamy.
- Combine the milk and vanilla.
- Add the sifted, dry ingredients to the creamed butter mixture in three parts, alternating with the milk and vanilla mixture. Stir until the batter is smooth.
- Whip until stiff, 4 egg whites. Gently fold them into the batter and pour into two 9-inch baking pans sprayed with a baking prep spray.
- Bake at 375 for 25 minutes.
- Remove and allow to cool 5 minutes before turn the cakes out onto a cooling rack.
- While the cakes are cooling, mix the dry ingredients for the Fondue sauce in a small pan and add a small amount of water - enough to make a thick paste. Add the milk and heat.
- Do not boil.
- When warm, add the butter and vanilla.
- Cut the cake into individual servings, cover with the hot fondue sauce. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- For a better presentation, you might use square baking pans.
- Note: The white cake recipe was originally from Joy of Cooking. I'm not sure where the Chocolate Fondue sauce recipe came from originally.
