This recipe I got out of the better homes and garden cookbook circa 1960

Ingredients
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • egg
  • 2 Tablespoon milk
  • ====================
  • 1 cup sifted enriched flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup seedless raisins
  • 1/2 chopped walnuts
  • ====================
  • 1 1/2 cups wheat flakes, slightly crushed
  • Candied Cherries

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Grease cookie sheets
  3. Thoroughly cream together shotening, sugar, lemon peel, and vanilla.
  4. Add egg and milk; beat thoroughly.
  5. Sift dry ingredients together.
  6. Add dry ingedients to creamed mixture, mix well.
  7. Sir in raisins and nuts.
  8. Drop by teaspoons into rushed wheat flakes; toss lightly to coat.
  9. Place on greased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.
  10. Top each with a candied - cherry half.
  11. Bake for about 12 minutes.
  12. Cool slightly before removing form pan.
