Meatloaf With A Brown Sugar Glaze Recipe

How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 5x9 inch loaf pan.
  • Press the brown sugar in the bottom of the prepared loaf pan and spread the ketchup over the sugar.
  • In a mixing bowl, thoroughly mix all remaining ingredients and shape into a loaf. Place on top of the ketchup and sugar.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour or until juices are clear.
  • Carefully invert meatloaf onto plate so that brown sugar and ketchup glaze is on top.

    I googled "brown sugar meatloaf" because I vaguely remember helping my mom make this meatloaf, and looking at the ingredients, I do believe it's the closest recipe yet to the recipe that she used although I think she used bread crumbs instead of crackers and I think I remember mustard in the recipe. Anyhow, my mom died two years ago and I've been missing her meatloaf like crazy. I'm not much of a cook, but I'll have to give this a shot!

    I mix the brown sugar in with all the other ingredients. Like the smell and taste. I put the leftovers from the loaf in the steamer tray of my rice cooker later in the week comes out moist and tasty.

    This was the best meatloaf I've made! Even my DD liked it! The glaze and meatloaf went together well and there was enough of the glazey sauce to go on the mashed potatoes as well. I will definitely be keeping this recipe in my file. The only change I would make would be to reduce the quantity of milk to 1/2 cup as the juices almost overflowed from my pyrex loaf pan. Thanks Shandy~it's a winner! Five stars!!!
