Ingredients
  • 1 lb turkey breast, cooked and cubed
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 leek, finely sliced with some nice green
  • 1 cup green onions sliced
  • 5 cloves of garlic, mashed
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp canned chipotles in adobe, minced
  • ** note: Chipotles are very strong in flavor so less is more.
  • 15 olives (manzanilla), sliced
  • 1 teaspoon green olive juice (liquid the olives are packed in)
  • 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of sherry (oops I believe some splashed extra while measuring!)
  • 1 big potato cubed (I used sweet potato)
  • 3 roma tomatoes, diced large
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • Grind these spices
  • # 3/4 t. black peppercorns
  • # 1 tsp mustard seed
  • # 4 cloves

Directions
  1. Wash the potato and pierce with a fork, microwave on high for 3 minutes to partially cook it. Let cool a bit so you don't burn your little fingers remove skin and cut into uniform cubes.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix well the tomato sauce, diced roma tomatoes, vinegar, sherry, olive juice and minced chipotles.

  5. Prepare ground spices, transfer to a small dish and add the cuimin, oregano and ground cinnamon

  7. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet
  8. Saute the leeks, green onion, and garlic until tender.
  9. ---------
  10. Add the turkey, tomato mixture and sweet potato and bring up to a high simmer
  11. ---------
  12. Toss in the raisins, olives and spices. Mix well and turn the heat down to a low simmer. Let the picadillo gently simmer for about 15 - 20 minutes to get the flavors used to each other.

This sounds so different and absolutely delicious! Very nice combo of spices and ingredients here, a must try for me! That picture is making my mouth water!


This sounds wonderful. I will have to leave out the Cumin though, not fond of cumin. This will be a "do" for Monday for sure. Have you ever thought of stuffing tamales with this? Your recipe is so similar to my Abuela's recipe for Picadillo only hers is made with beef and she often stuffed tamales with her Picadillo. It comes out fabulous! My mouth is watering just thinking about your Picadillo!
