- 16 oz number 10 pasta (long tubes); cooked & drained shopping list
- 4 cups any meat sauce shopping list
- ----- CREAM SAUCE ----- shopping list
- 4 cups milk shopping list
- 8 oz butter; (2 sticks) shopping list
- 2 cups all purpose flour shopping list
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg shopping list
- salt and pepper; to taste shopping list
- 4 eggs shopping list
- 2 cups Kefalotiri or Parmesan cheese; grated shopping list
How to make it
- In a saucepan, warm the milk and melt in the butter.
- Blend in flour, stirring constantly with a wire whisk.
- Stir vigorously until sauce thickens.
- Add nutmeg and salt and pepper, to taste.
- Remove from heat and cool.
- Beat eggs with wire whisk.
- Add 1/2 cup cooled sauce to the eggs and return to saucepan.
- Stir in grated cheese.
- Mix half of the cream sauce with the prepared pasta and set remaining sauce aside.
- Pour 1/2 the pasta mixture in the baking dish.
- Cover pasta with an even layer of meat sauce.
- Add remaining pasta mixture.
- Finally, cover the pasta with the remaining cream sauce.
- Sprinkle some additional grated cheese on top if you like.
- Bake, uncovered, at 350°F for 50 minutes or until the top is nice and golden brown.
- Let stand until slightly cooled before serving.
