Out of boredom and the need for a creative birthday present for a friend I found this little eggless gem. I like useful gifts.

Ingredients
  • This is what you place in a jar or baggie. The rest of ingredients are found in directions:
  • 2 cups flour
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • Measure out each ingredient combining salt and baking soda with flour. Layer ingredients in a quart wide mouth canning jar in given order.
  • It is helpful to tap jar on a lightly padded surface.
  • To top the jar off making it more decorative cut a 9 inch circle from fabric of your choice, fastening in place with a rubber band. You may wish to add raffia or ribbon bow to cover the rubber band.

  1. Create and attach a card with the following directions:
  2. ¾ cup vegetable oil
  3. 2 tsp. vinegar
  4. 1 tsp. vanilla
  5. 2 cups water
  6. Stir cake ingredients together using a wire whisk or fork,
  7. making certain that all ingredients are completely mixed together.
  8. Bake at 350f for 35 minutes. Frost as desired or serve sprinkled
  9. with powdered sugar, with fresh fruit on the side.

That sounds like a nice gift. The only changes I would make is carob in place of cocoa and lemon juice in place of vinegar.

I will add that as suggestions to my next batch. I think I have som carob up in the cabinet. Thank you for suggesting.

Very nice idea, thanks a bunch! ^5
