Snickerdoodles Recipe
A simple yet pretty cookie. My family devours them by the handful, both this way and the whole wheat/nutmeg variation.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup shortening or butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.
  2. Combine dry ingredients.
  3. Cream sugar and shortening/butter; add eggs one at a time. Gradually add dry ingredients until completely mixed in.
  4. Roll dough into 1-inch balls.
  5. Combine sugar and cinnamon; roll dough in mixture to completely coat.
  6. Space dough balls 2-3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet; bake 8-10 minutes until very lightly browned. Cool on wire racks; enjoy!

Alterations


These are also wonderful if you use whole wheat or graham flour instead of the white, all purpose variety, and substitute nutmeg for the cinnamon. This version is wonderful with coffee and coffee drinks.
