Cut-out Cookies And Icing Recipe
We make these cookies every year at Christmas. The kids LOVE them, plus they really enjoy helping make and decorating them.

Ingredients
  • Cookie:
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
  • ½ tsp. almond or lemon extract
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • Frosting:
  • 1 box of powdered sugar
  • ½ cup of softened butter
  • ¼ cup milk

Directions
  1. Cookies:
  2. Cream sugar, butter, egg, vanilla and almond extract
  3. Add flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar
  4. Mix well
  5. Roll out and use your favorite cookie cutters
  6. Bake at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet
  7. Let cookies cool then frost and decorate.
  8. Frosting:
  9. Blend ingredients well with mixer
  10. Beat at medium speed for 1-2 minutes until creamy
  11. Divide icing and add food coloring
  12. Spread over cooled cookies and have fun decorating

We did the same at Christmas... Now my daughter does it with her kids... 2 are in the Navy and this will be their first Christmas away.. we are planning to send undecorated cookies, with some powdered sugar, to them to decorate... Have to send sprinkles too! Trying to figure out what they can mix with the powdered sugar... On ship..they should have cartons on milk...


How much powdered sugar usually comes in a box? I buy it bagged..
