Cut-out cookies and icing

We make these cookies every year at Christmas. The kids LOVE them, plus they really enjoy helping make and decorating them.
Ingredients
- Cookie: shopping list
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar shopping list
- 1 cup butter or margarine shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring shopping list
- ½ tsp. almond or lemon extract shopping list
- 2 ½ cups flour shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking soda shopping list
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar shopping list
- Frosting: shopping list
- 1 box of powdered sugar shopping list
- ½ cup of softened butter shopping list
- ¼ cup milk shopping list
How to make it
- Cookies:
- Cream sugar, butter, egg, vanilla and almond extract
- Add flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar
- Mix well
- Roll out and use your favorite cookie cutters
- Bake at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet
- Let cookies cool then frost and decorate.
- Frosting:
- Blend ingredients well with mixer
- Beat at medium speed for 1-2 minutes until creamy
- Divide icing and add food coloring
- Spread over cooled cookies and have fun decorating
