This is a take off the Welch or Finnish pasty,which is very popular in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.Real ones are wrapped in dough.Miners would take these down in the mine for lunch.

Ingredients
  • Easy Pan Pasty (Pass_tee)
  • 1 1/2 lb. browned hamburger
  • 1 16 oz. bag of frozen hash browns
  • 1 pkg. onion soup mix
  • 1 c. grated carrot
  • 1 c. grated rutabaga
  • 1 1/2 C. milk
  • Couple pinches of salt
  • Few grinds fresh black pepper

Directions
  1. Mix together and pat into a 9 x 12 pan. Top with your favorite crust (I
  2. actually used 2 packaged un-fold pie crusts, pieced together to cover
  3. the top).
  4. Bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes. Let set for 10-15 min. Serve with gravy
  5. or ketchup. These actually taste better the next day!
  6. Serves eight

I remember tucking into a warm Cornish Pasty back home in England so I wonder what this mixture would be like wrapped in pastry. Good I'll bet. But I'm going to try it both ways.Thanks & 5 forks
