Ingredients
  • 1 cup cleaned grasshoppers, (heads, wings and legs removed)
  • 3/4 cup of flour ........this is always to much -but its the close'st amount i can get to what i use...
  • 1 shake of baking powder
  • 1 dash of salt
  • 1/2 c milk- maybe a smidge more if to thick
  • 1 egg, whipped /beaten ..get it foamy
  • one dash of angostura bitters........or two if you like...just go easy with this stuff -its potent...

Directions
  1. This is like a biscuit dough you fry instead of bake...
  2. take the dry stuff and mix in a big glass bowl
  3. add the milk slowly and mix until its smooth
  4. then the whipped egg and remix until you get a consistent color in the batch...
  5. then toss in the hoppers and mix so there evenly spread in the batter...like chocolate chips..
  6. spoon out with a big ladle and drop in your skillet of hot oil...when golden flip...cook until edges get brown its about six minutes per side in water hissing oil
  7. drain the biscuits on paper towels...and eat..
  8. .i never had one hop off the plate yet.......
  9. you can add diced onion or chives too.......
  10. prep time of 120 minutes is time for you to catch them/cook them and there are all around for the summer...
  11. and no- they dont taste like chicken...........

Very interesting. I've heard of this and chocolate covered ants but it just doesn't appeal to me.Rather have chicken.

Different for sure. Have tried rattlesnake, squirrel, raccoon, frog legs, turtle soup and even opossum and chocolate covered ants, so imight be game if your cooking.

I am speechless. Of course the Aborigines of Australia eat grubs and I have seen in Thailand deep fried insects of all kinds are eaten.

Down here in Texas they are pretty good for fishing, never ate one. Might have to man-up and try something alittle crazy. :)
