Grilled Basil Bananas Recipe
A lite sweet and slightly exotic side or dessert for grilling season. In California, it is always grilling season.

Ingredients
  • 2 large bananas
  • Allspice
  • 8 basil leaves, rinsed
  • Olive oil spray
  • 8 toothpicks, soaked in water 30 minutes

Directions
  1. Peel bananas. Cut carefully in half. Sprinkle cut sides with allspice. Attach 2 basil leaves to the cut side of each half with toothpicks. Spray both sides lightly with olive oil spray. Place on grill set up for indirect heating, cut side up. Grill for 2-3 minutes until grill marks are on banana and it has softened. Carefully flip to cut sides with basil. Grill one minute more. Watch for scorching of basil.

As a side, it doesn't need a sauce. But as a dessert, I would serve it with a dab of sour cream or creme fraiche.
