Slow Italian Sausage Pasta Sauce Recipe
Homemade Italian pasta sauce cooked low & slow. Add in the ingredients you like to make it your own.

Ingredients
  • 6 Italian sausage links (about 1 1/2 lb.), cut into 1" pieces
  • 1 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1-2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • salt & pepper, to taste
  • 3-4 garlic cloves, peeled, minced - depending on how garlick-y you like your sauce - add more or less
  • 1 (28-oz.) can crushed tomatoes, undrained - Use San Marzano, if available
  • 1 (15-oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (12-oz.) can tomato paste
  • glug or so of red wine - optional

Directions
  1. In 3 1/2-4-quart slow cooker, combine all ingredients &; mix well. Cover & cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. Skim and discard fat.
  2. About 30-45 minutes before serving, prepare your pasta of choice, or ravioli. If you have enough room in your cooker, add prepped meatballs or braciole to the sauce. Cook until heated through. Pass Parmesan at the table.

I love my slow cooker in cold weather but I've never thought of anything like this. Awesome!
One question......
Is it OK if the cook has a few glugs of red wine as well????
