Apples?

I'll be going apple picking tomorrow morning and was wondering what apples to pick. I love to make all kinds of apple recipes...as some of you may have heard! LOL! So which ones should I get? I'm on Long Island, so I'm not sure about the selection, but I'd love to have your suggestions. In all the recipes I make, the apples are cooked.

    Thanks for your opinions!

I think it depends on which farm you go to. When I lived on the IslandI , we used to go to Lewin farms or Biting Holow. We picked golden delicious and granny smiths as well as MacIntosh. I'm sure there are others, too. Which one are you going to?

Hi GG! Thats exactly where we are going! Thanks, I wasn't sure what kind of apples they have. I guess I'll get the golden delicious. They're a little sweeter than the granny smith. I've been using granny smiths lately so it should be interesting to see how it works with the goldens.

    Thanks so much! :)

A while back I read that if you want to make a really great apple pie or similar dish it is best to use a variety of apple types. I tried it and it's true. Maybe that way you can pick all types! Have fun!

Thats a good idea! I just hope I can mix 3 different varieties in one bushel because I definitely don't want 3 bushels!
