Crafting as therapy...

It's been mentioned hereabouts that some of you like to work with fiber to keep your sanity, including yours truly. Right now, I've got an afghan almost finished. The idea came from a simple dishcloth pattern, knit on the diagonal, starting in the corner with one stitch. I'm also working on 4 dishclothes, 2 of them are diagonally stitched, and the other 2 are rows of garter and stockinette. When finished, I'll post some pictures.

So, what do y'all have OTN (shop talk for "on the needles")? Or the hook, if that's the case?

Had to join. You are speaking my language with this. :)

I am not a caregiver for anyone but my children and here lately I am the one being cared for after a 'surprise' emergency surgery at the end of September.

Had been thinking of picking up the crochet hook again for a few months/years before that, but hadn't got around to it. Being laid up, so to speak, I got bored with TV and yes, FaceBook and my various FB games were not really tripping my trigger. So I sent my teen to the Wally World and gave her 3 colors to pick up and a hook. (I'm sure I have hooks and yarn buried in the garage somewhere...)

Took me a week to create a purple/red with black borders granny square afghan. Have made a pastel ripple baby afghan (first one ever and is a bit wonky lookin if you ask me) in 2 weeks. Couple of dishcloths, hair scrunchies and a grocery bag dispenser. Now I am doing a Turqua/Amethyst in the same pattern as the baby afghan and it is just the right size for a little cutie named Karma. :)

I have found a couple of free pattern sites if you would like me to post them. If you know of any I would really appreciate checking them out. I haven't stepped foot in a store in almost 2 months now. Thank God for the internet, huh?

Ang, I love to crochet, too. I spent the birthday money from my step-dad on yarn!! And honey I really needed shoes instead. Just having something to do with my hands keeps me from thinking too hard and crying. Hugs honey. I'd be happy to share pattern sites.

    Hugs right back, sweetie. ♥

I know I need more practice. I would love to be able to make a sweater or something of the like without pulling my hair out over the directions.

Teehee... I saw an ad on FB the other day... it said, "I knit so I won't kill anyone!" hahaha. If y'all are looking for a really neat website for knit/crochet, try ravelry.com. Some patterns are for purchase, but there's a bazillion other patterns that are free.

Ohhhhhh, and also I believe they have spinning and weaving groups.

I also weave baskets. Yep, I'm a basket case and a happy hooker. LOL
I have trouble with some of the directions too, but fortunately it can be undone and started over. It took six tries to get a decent cap for my friend Sue.

Ya know sumpin, Tina?? When I was 9 years old, our elderly neighbor lady across the street taught me to crochet... BY HAVING ME WORK ON HER PIECES!! *big ol' grin* I was so humbled by her graciousness, and I asked her, What if I mess up. She always said, "Not to worry, we can always rip it back to the mistake and begin again." I will never forget her and will always be grateful for her, as she gave me such a gift, because the craft has saved my ass many times.

If ya decide to check out Ravelry and join, look for me... I'm known as MizConnie.

I joined! Haven't really searched out any projects yet, but I think I'm gonna like it. Looks a lot cleaner and modern than the sites I've found so far. I am ang2you there. Going to look for MizConnie. :)
