Taste of the South magazine

    Taste of the South magazine
I had never picked one up until the other day and now I'm hooked.
I have scoured the latest issue, April/May 2008, from cover to cover and it's fantastic. There is just no way I can possibly make all of the dishes that I find of interest and if I did, I would have to buy new clothes, as the old ones barely fit now.

I found mine at Sam's Club. You know, that place you go to buy too much of everything you need. They also have quite a few cooking/food magazines that can be found by the books.

This particular issue has an interesting article about Cheerwine, a North Carolina regional soft drink that sounds absolutely delicious. I've got to figure out how to get sample of that. It sound wonderful. There are even several recipes using the beverage as an ingredient. Ice cream, Cheerwine cooler, chocolate cake and frosting, BBQ sauce, marinade, vinaigrette dressing, duck and chicken wings. My mouth is watering, just over recipes using something I can't get my hands on.

They've even been so nice as to tell us about the executive chef at Churchill Downs, complete with recipes from the Levy Restaurant there. OMG...

They've done an excellent article on the author of Bon Apetit Y'All and furnished some recipes from the book. Actually the wings recipe is from there, not the Cheerwine article. This one uses Cocoa Cola. The author tells about her grandmother's dinner roll recipe, which I have to try. The picture of them looks good enough to eat!

The article on Victor's Cafeteria, in Bayou Teche, Louisiana, has a recipe for coconut pie that I'm dying to try. It also looks good enough to eat, right off the page.

I tell you, this magazine is a definite have-to-have.

The article says it's hard to describe but it sounds like the original recipe was made with wild cherry syrup and molasses. I can only imagine the taste.
I KNOW I would like it! ANOTHER thing that I should have but want! LOL

Cheerwine is wonderful. Our favorite barbecue place in St. Pete, Butler's has it for the transplanted North Carolinians!!! They also, have a big old jar of sweet hot pickles to help yourself when you order your que. Great mustardy sauce. HMMMMM, good stuff.

I'll have to find that magazine. It sounds great.

Love Derby food, too. A good Hot Brown is a wondrous thing. And I love the Benedictine sandwiches.
